A brand New Year arrived last night;
It came while I was waiting.
But I did not hear the horns or shouts
Of people celebrating.
Because, you see, I fell asleep
Before the hour, when
The old year silently passed out
And the New Year entered in.
But I have a clean new calendar
Which hangs before my eyes
And every day that's listed
Will hold a new surprise.

In this new year
I'll be so good.
I'll do the things
I know I should.
I'll wash my hands
And comb my hair
And never tip back in my chair.
I'll be so kind to my little brother
And help my sister, father, and my mother.
In this new year
Will you be good
And do the things
You know you should?

Here's wishing you more happiness
Than all my words can tell,
Not just alone for New Years Eve
But for all the year as well

New Year

We've Holidays and happy days,
and memory days galore
And when we've toasted every one,
I offer just one more
So let us lift our glasses high,
and drink a silent toast
To the day, deep buried in each heart
that each one loves the most

Carol of the Bells

performed by the choir of Trinity Church in Boston

Hark! how the bells, sweet silver bells all
seem to say throw cares away.
Christmas is here, bringing good cheer
to young and old meek and the bold
Ding, dong, ding, dong, that is their song
with joyful ring all caroling one seems
to hear words of good cheer from
ev'rywhere filling the air oh how they
pound, raising the sound! o'er hill and
dale telling their tale gaily they ring
While people sing songs of good cheer
Christmas is here!
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas!
Merry,merry,merry,merry Christmas!
On, on they send, on without end their
joyful tone to ev'ry home.
Ding, dong

Ding, dong, booooooong!

What do you know about Christmas carols? They are religious songs sung at Christmas time. Groups of people sing them, both indoors and outdoors. They are called carolers and they usually collect money for homeless and poor people. Sometimes carolers, especially children, go along the streets from house to house singing carols and collecting money. However, there is also a Christmas Carol that is not a song or a hymn. It is a story told more than a century and a half ago by one of the most wonderful story-tellers of the world, the famous English writer – Charles Dickens.

Americans spend a lot of time and money buying Christmas presents.  The average American family spends about eight-hundred dollars.  Stores and shopping centers are crowded at this time of year.  More than twenty percent of all goods sold during the year are sold during the weeks before Christmas.  This is good for stores and for the American economy.
For many people, Christmas means traveling long distances to be with their families.

"I'll Be Home For Christmas"

sing by Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack

I'll be home for Christmas;
You can count on me.
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree.
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love-light gleams.
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams.
